Knee Arthritis

Knee Arthritis

Arthritis is defined as inflammation concerning one or more of the joints. Symptoms can include pain, swelling, and stiffness. Any joint in the body can be affected by a particular disease, but it is particularly common in the knee. The knee is the largest and strongest joint in the body, and dealing with knee arthritis on a daily basis can be exhausting.

Overview of Services

Here at Absolute Integrated Health, we have multiple ways to help you deal with arthritis, especially associated with the knee. We offer SUPARTZ injections, which are intended to lubricate the joint so as to ease the friction within the knee. Our first step is to inject a dye into the joint to make sure the sac is intact and that the injection will not leak out. We use video fluoroscopy, which is essentially an x-ray inside the knee so that we can eliminate all guesswork on whether or not we are injecting directly into the joint.

Moreover, we do a series of five injections, once a week, to build up a tolerance and slowly increase the dosage. In most cases, patients see benefits for six to twelve months. This procedure can also be done repetitively. Once a patient stops seeing benefits, they can repeat the injections again. Often, we will follow up the injections with bracing of the knee and therapy so that we can keep the knee stable and strengthened.

Besides pain relief and strengthening, one major benefit of these injections is avoiding total knee replacement. Our team wants to do everything we can to help the patients with their activities of daily living, and avoid taking any unnecessary risks with surgery.
